To explore easily Quan Lan Island, visitors can choose high-speed train journey from Cai Rong (Van Don district ) or take off from Hon Gai wharf ( Bach Dang Ward , Ha Long City). After about one and a half of hours cruise on Bai Tu Long Bay, visitors will come Quan Lan Island.
The first impression for visitors is going from piers by auto rickshaws (a 3 -wheel vehicle) and going through the white sands, casuarina ranges and romantic sea. In fact, auto rickshaw is a means of transportation used most and is an interesting and easy way to visit the island. The first most meaningful destination is to visit Quan Lan, light an incense to commemorate efforts of Tran Khanh Du. In fact, he was a general who was responsible for protecting Van Don border and defeated the Mongol invasion. This is not only a beautiful house but also a sacred place.
The communal house was built in ancient trading port Cai Lan under the reign of Hau Le( about 17th century ) and the only communal house under the reign of King Ly Anh Tong who had founded the Van Don trading port in 1149 . This is a beautiful communal house skillfully carved. Over hundreds of years, its main poles made from wood are not changed and affected by termites.
Having visited Quan Lan this summer, indispensable destinations are beaches like Lang and Son Hao which arre not far from the town center. They have thick and pristine sand layers with clear and cool water throughout. In the early morning, or the afternoon visitors can enjoy the fresh seafood.
In Quan Lan, visitors can stay at resorts of of Van Hai Viglacera Company located in Son Hao beach, take part in campfire local people, fish offshore fishing and catch cuttle-fish.
Besides, you also can choose homestay style. You’ll eat with local people, catch cuttle-fish every night or bring hoes to find peanut worms every morning.
In the early dew, tourists can go visit the wharf to see seafood sale at Tan Dai fish market ( right near Quan Lan communal house) or walk about 30 minutes to Dau Lang waterfall to explore the grandeur and pristine of the sea
One way to explore the island is hiring bicycles (70000- 80000 VND/ day) to ride around the island and visit the forest and Minh Chau beach. This way will be an exciting tourist form because in the future, the tourist road will be widened about 24m to connect to Minh Chau commune.
How to get Quan Lan
1. Hon Gai – Quan Lan Speedboat (2 times per day) : Departs daily at 10:30 and 14:00 , ticket price : 120 – 150,000 VND, running time : from 50 minutes – 1 hour and 15 minutes .
2. Cai Rong – Quan Lan Speedboat: Departs 8:00 am and 14:00 pm daily, ticket price: 120,000 VND, running time: 45 minutes
